Don’t Compute in Public

 

Take 1

While you professor may expect you to “show all work” for homework or tests, this is not necessary for mathematical talks.  Such computations take up valuable time and seem tedious.

If your presentation requires a certain amount of routine computations, just remind the audience of the techniques used and then give the result.  For example, do not show the computation of an eigenvalue.
